LINEWORKER, MAINTENANCE (ALBERT LEA, MN)

The Lineworker, Maintenance is responsible to assist in the safe inspection, maintenance, repair, and operation of the transmission system (transmission lines and substation) for their associated areas. Responsible for all corresponding required documentation.

The Impact You'll Make In This Role:

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS : This list is developed to demonstrate the level of duties normally performed by this classification and to develop a related wage rate. The list is not an all encompassing list of duties.

  1. Assist in the safe inspection, operation and maintenance of all transmission lines and substation facilities within their designated area with emphasis on facility reliability and life expectancy.

  2. Assist in reporting problems, deficiencies, conditions, etc., to the appropriate departments or to the area supervisor. Appropriate departments may include: Dispatch, Vegetation Management, Electrical Maintenance, Right-of-Way, and Electrical Engineering.

  3. Assist in planning, prioritizing, and scheduling all preventative maintenance activities and for coordinating the activities with the area supervisor. Participate in tailgates.

  4. Responsible for maintaining appropriate relations and interactions with other utilities and with property owners.

  5. Assist in the completion of proper inspection and maintenance records and other documentation.

  6. Interact with the area supervisor on any and all maintenance problems.

  7. Responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of assigned vehicles, tools, and equipment assigned to them.

  8. Responsible for learning, knowing and consistently following safety rules, company policies, and procedures.

  9. Other duties historically performed by this classification.

Your Experience and Expertise:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :

Education & Experience : High school diploma or GED and completion of a recognized accredited lineworker program.

* Journeyman preferred; will consider apprentice.

Skills : Work towards being able to identify outage-causing problems and restore services. Training to be provided in switching, patrolling, documentation and record keeping, substation fuse replacement, line and substation maintenance and repair. Pole and steel climbing skills. Understanding of theory of electricity and associated principles. Computer skills necessary.

Licenses and Certifications : Valid Driver’s License. Class A Commercial Driver’s License.

Physical Demands : Occasionally climbs poles or stands in a hydraulic bucket to work at height of 55 feet or more, often working in awkward positions. Frequently lifts materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds. Occasionally lifts items that weigh up to 100 pounds. Must be able to perform pole top and bucket rescue. Shovels dirt, works around noisy equipment, and visually inspects work. Occasionally works with energized lines that must be handled according to NESCO/OSHA and DPC Safety Practices.

Occasionally works at night, on weekends and holidays to repair or install lines. Interacts with crew members, foreman/forewoman and supervisors via verbal and written communication. Position requires the ability to hear, use near and far vision, stand, walk, kneel, bend, crouch, crawl, twist upper body, climb hand-over-hand, and manipulate a variety of objects and tools. Must be able to drive a variety of motor vehicles and operate hydraulic equipment.

Environmental Demands : Works outdoors with great physical exertion, often in poor weather conditions. Works on uneven terrain in fields and along roads, often encountering vehicular traffic.

Other Job Characteristics : Off-duty availability. Legible handwriting, good oral and written communication skills, able to interact with people positively.

Primary Living Location : Must relocate/reside within 25 air mile radius of designated work location. (Refer to Letter of Understanding Electrical Maintenance and Transmission Living Distance document effective October 19, 2023.)
