Dairyland Power Cooperative Substation Engineer I or II in La Crosse, Wisconsin

Responsible for the engineering and design of the physical aspects of transmission and distribution substations. As a member of a team, resolve problems that may impact Dairyland and its member cooperatives and municipals. Provide continuing technical support to other departments internally to Dairyland and externally, as necessary, to support Dairyland and its member cooperatives and municipals.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  1. Responsible, with minimal supervision, for the engineering and design of high voltage and medium voltage substation. Engineering and design of substations to include general arrangements, equipment and electrical layout, elevations, cable trench and raceway design, foundation design, bills of materials, and AC and DC power systems.

  2. Working knowledge of applicable industry and safety standards and codes including RUS, OSHA, ANSI, NEC, NESC, local and other applicable standards and codes.

  3. Responsible for the preparation and revisions of material and equipment specifications. Work with purchasing and project management staff to procure material necessary for substation maintenance and construction activities.

  4. Coordinate with other Dairyland technical and field personnel to assist in problems solving, construction changes and schedule changes.

  5. Responsible for creating or assisting project managers with creating project scopes, cost estimates and schedules for capital and maintenance projects.

  6. Responsible for performing engineering calculations relating the physical design of the substations such as, equipment ratings, bus calculations and others.

  7. Perform other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education & Experience: Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering or Structural Engineering from an accredited university. Three (3) years of progressive experience in the areas of substation physical design, substation protection and control design or structural design. Knowledge of project estimating and engineering economics. Engineer in Training (EIT) certification is preferred.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

• Requires a high degree of understanding for spatial concepts, mathematics, mechanics and statistics

• Must have good oral and written communication skills

• Experience with computer aided drafting software such as AutoCAD is preferred

• Strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to interface effectively with individuals at various levels

• Must be self-motivated, and able to work with minimal supervision.

• Knowledge of power systems is desirable

• Proficient in Microsoft Office suite of programs (Word, Excel, Power Point, etc.)
